Innovators Under 35 Asia Pacific honours the best 35 young talents from Australia, Brunei, China (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan), Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam whose superb technical work promises to change the world.

Our goal is to create a community for the brightest and youngest minds of the region to connect with each other and escalate the impact of their achievements.

The list recognises the development of new technology or the creative application of existing technologies to solve global problems in industries such as biotechnology, materials, computer hardware, energy, transportation, communications, and the Internet.

He expanded the scope of chiral materials using electron microscopy to guide the development of rapid synthesis methods for industrial production of chiral metamaterials.

She developed electrochemical routes that can refine these petrochemicals under ambient conditions using renewable electricity, minimizing the carbon footprint of the chemicals industry.

He led the development of the video generation model Dream Machine, breaking through the boundaries of large-scale AI models.

He, for the first time, achieved the application of a monolithic thin-film semiconductor device for the minimally invasive, high-resolution, and random-access optoelectronic pacing of an adult pig’s heart in vivo, realizing the multiscale biological modulation from single cardiac cells to the heart tissues of large mammals.

She developed nanopipette sensors with openings of ~10 nanometers that can directly detect neurotransmitters in complex media, towards early prevention and monitoring of diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.

She pioneered the first biochemical reconstitution and solved the atomic structures of transposition within the human genome, revealing the replication and transposition mechanism of the LINE-1 element, a mobile element in the human genome that dates back approximately 2.5 billion years.

Catherine TONG

Her achievements to date include building pioneering activity recognition models to advance the field of digital health, and contributing to the development of AlphaFold 3 to model the biomolecular world.

He has spearheaded the cross-institutional research team that developed and maintained vHive, a full-stack open-source framework and ecosystem for serverless experimentation and innovation, currently used by over 30 academic organizations and eight industry organizations worldwide.

Jiajun WU

He embedded the understanding of physical scenes into machines, providing AI tools with perception, reasoning, and interaction capabilities.

Bo XIA

He uncovered the genetic basis of tail-loss evolution in humans and apes, induced by a single retrotransposon (Alu) element in the TBXT gene.

Jinglei ZHAI

She established a series of novel in vitro culture systems that provide a foundation for exploring the regulatory mechanisms of early human embryonic development and the molecular characteristics of developmental abnormalities associated with diseases.

Hai-Tian ZHANG

He developed neuromorphic computing devices with ultra-low energy consumption (fJ level) and ultra-fast response (ns level), making their efficiency comparable to that of the human brain, drastically reducing energy consumption and boosting computing efficiency.
